The Michigan Wolverines Will Honor John Beilein And The 2013 basketball team on Saturday
Well, Michigan fans, it’s been a decade since that special team took the court. The 2012-13 Michigan basketball team — which restored the Wolverines to what the program once was before the Fab 5 scandal — will be honored at halftime of this Saturday’s matchup against Michigan State at the Crisler Center.
Why Was The 2013 Team So Important?
2012-13 was a year that broke many trends for the Michigan Wolverines basketball program. For the first time since 1992, Michigan finished a season with 30 or more wins — the 2013 team danced their way through the postseason all the way to a National Title apperance. The Wolverines came into the year ranked No. 18, and though Michigan saw an average regular season and though UM saw a fast exit in the Big Ten Tournament, the Wolverines made a deep NCAA tournament push.
The 2013 team was one of two John Beilein-coached Michigan squads to win a Final Four game and make the National Title game. Both teams fell just short, though a mysterious goaltending call on Michigan star guard Trey Burke seemed to seal the Wolverines’ fate in 2013. That team sparked a new era of Michigan Wolverine basketball — one that Juwan Howard inherited and helped lead to a Big Ten title in 2021.
2013 Team Will Be Honored At Crisler Center
This weekend, the 2013 Michigan basketball team — the staff, coaches, and players — will be honored at the Crisler Center at halftime of the Michigan-Michigan State game on Saturday night. Among the game’s other unique attributes, which have been added due to the shooting at MSU, it will serve as the Maize Out game and the 10-year reunion of John Beilein’s 2013 Final Four squad. Here are some of the faces that will be in attendance.
Coaches: John Beilein, Bacari Alexander

Players: Eso Akunne, Spike Albrecht, Josh Bartelstein, Trey Burke, Tim Hardaway Jr., Jon Horford, Nik Stauskas
