Jordan Hobbs drafted in third round of WNBA Draft

Jordan Hobbs was the only returning starter for Michigan women’s basketball last season, and she turned a successful senior year into a roster spot in the WNBA. Hobbs was picked No. 34 overall by the Seattle Storm Monday night and became the third Wolverine drafted into the WNBA since 2022.

Hobbs was one of the leaders of a Michigan squad that surprised people around the country last season. Most of the attention went to the freshmen, and understandably so, as Syla Swords and Olivia Olson headlined what could end up being the best class in the history of the program. However, Hobbs was steady for the Wolverines and turned in the best season of her four-year career.

Hobbs started all 34 games for Michigan for the second year in a row. The senior averaged career highs in points (13.6), rebounds (4.8), steals (0.7), field goal percentage (42.9) and free throw percentage (81.6).

Not only did she improve statistically, but Hobbs showed she has the clutch gene in the NCAA tournament. In the first round against Iowa State, Hobbs put up a career-high 28 points to help Michigan move on, including five 3’s. She also put up 23 points in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinal against Maryland.

Legacy

Hobbs is one of five players in program history to reach the NCAA tournament four times. Most of her teammates left in the midst of adversity last offseason, but Hobbs stuck it out and earned herself a chance in the pros.

“Those who stay will be champions” is one of Michigan’s most well-known mottos, and Hobbs is a perfect example. She may not have raised any trophies last season, but Hobbs trusted head coach Kim Barnes Arico and her culture, and it paid off.

• 2023 – Leigha Brown, Atlanta Dream (2nd round, 15th overall)
• 2025 – Jordan Hobbs, Seattle Storm (3rd round, 34th overall)
