On Monday, junior linebacker Jaydon Hood addressed the media for the first time since the beginning of Michigan football fall camp. There, the breakout LB outlined a few big hitters on the Wolverines’ defense — players such as himself, Ja’Den McBurrows, and a few others.
Latest news from Michigan football fall camp surrounding team’s “big hitters”
This year’s Michigan football defense could be a violent group. Offensive play-caller Sherrone Moore has already stated that the battles between a few offensive and defensive Wolverines — such as defensive tackle Kris Jenkins and offensive guard Zak Zinter — have been getting physical at camp. On Monday, linebacker Jaydon Hood outlined who some of the team’s biggest hitters are; if you’re looking for some fireworks on defense from the Maize and Blue, here are the names to watch.
First off, looking at Jaydon Hood’s high school tape, it’s clear that he is not someone that you want to get hit by. On Monday, he was asked about his big-hitting tendencies. “Yeah, I’m gonna hit something for sure,” Hood said.
Aside from Jaydon Hood, who are the other big hitters for the Michigan football defense?
“J-Mac (Ja’Den McBurrows) is a big hitter,” Hood continued. “I think all linebackers hit. D-lineman — they’re eating right now, for sure. (Brandyn) Hillman, had a couple of big hits the other day. I mean, it’s kind of hard to pick because, like I said, the pillars — we harp on block destruction, and we’re gonna block destruct for sure.”
Jaydon Hood talks about landing big hits, the mindset behind being a hard-hitting linebacker
As a linebacker at the highest level of college football, what is the key to landing a massive hit?
“It’s a mindset,” Hood said. “Obviously, there’s technique and all that stuff involved, but it’s really a mindset. If you’re not willing to hit that man, to stop him, whatever the play — no matter what technique, you’re not going to make that tackle. So it’s really just the mindset.”
When did Michigan football linebacker Jaydon Hood develop this intense mindset?
“When I knew I didn’t like losing,” he said. “From the moment I knew I didn’t like losing, I had to go hit something, so that’s when I did it.”
