Michigan baseball swept Ohio State in Columbus over the weekend, and it wasn’t even close. The Wolverines outscored the Buckeyes 47-8 over the three-game series, including a 23-1 shellacking in game one on Saturday. It marked the largest margin of victory over OSU in program history.

The win pushed Michigan into 6th place in the Big Ten (14-10) with an overall record of 30-17.

The OSU pitching staff struggled mightily in game one, and Michigan took advantage. All 23 of Michigan’s runs came on just 13 hits, including a 16-run 4th inning on four hits. The Buckeyes threw eight wild pitches, and they turned into six runs for the Wolverines.

Third baseman Cole Caruso led Michigan in hitting by going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, two runs and a walk. 23 runs is the most the Wolverines have ever scored against Ohio State.

Weather forced the entire series to be shifted, so Sunday was a doubleheader. In the first game Michigan went down 3-0 in the third inning. From that point on, the Wolverines outscored OSU 11-1, and reliever Dylan Vigue picked up his first win of the season (1-4).

Shortstop Benny Casillas and right fielder Brayden Jefferis each had three hits and three runs for Michigan, and the latter also had two RBIs.

The Wolverines wrapped up the series with a 13-3 win in eight innings Sunday evening. Heading into the seventh inning, Michigan starting pitcher Tate Carey (8-0) allowed one hit with eight strikeouts. Infielder Jeter Ybarra led the Wolverines at the plate, going 4-for-6 with three RBIs.

Michigan was supposed to host Central Michigan Tuesday, but the potential of inclimate weather has pushed it to Wednesday (May 7). The Wolverines will be back on the road over the weekend for a series against Nebraska.
