Michigan baseball weathered a storm against Central Michigan Wednesday to pull out an 8-7 victory. The Chips scored three runs in the eighth inning, but Dylan Vigue recorded his first save of the season to give the Wolverines the win.

Michigan holds the longest active winning streak in the Big Ten (8), and it could be playing its best ball at the right time.

Preston Barr got the start on the mound for the Wolverines Wednesday, going 3.1 innings with four hits and one run allowed. The Chips opened the game with a solo home run, but Michigan infielder Benny Casillas blasted a three-run homer in the second inning, putting it up 3-1.

After Barr was taken out in the third, Central Michigan tied the game 3-3. By the time the sixth inning was over, Michigan was back up 8-4. Freshman infielder Tyler Inge, son of Detroit Tigers legend Brandon Inge, had a career-best day at the plate. He went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

The Chips put three runs on the board in the eighth inning, but Vigue was able to put an end to the comeback. Michigan improved to 31-17 on the season with the win, and it sits in sixth place in the Big Ten behind Iowa, UCLA, Oregon, USC and Washington, respectively.

The Wolverines are on the road this weekend for a series against Nebraska. The Cornhuskers are five spots behind Michigan in the standings, and it will be the first matchup between the schools this season.
