Michigan basketball commit Trey McKenney (Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep, Orchard Lake, MI) stood toe to toe with IMG Academy on Thursday night. The Eaglets took on Florida’s IMG in front of a sold out crowd at Oakland University. McKenney was matched up against friend and former Cass Tech (Detroit) guard Darius Acuff Jr.

Acuff left for IMG after winning Cass Tech its first boys basketball state championship as a sophomore in 2023. Last season, as a junior, McKenney did the same for St. Mary’s. The two were teammates on The Family (Nike EYBL) and won gold together on Team USA at the FIBA U18 Americup.

Thursday’s crowd included Michigan football signees Bryce Underwood and Elijah Dotson, former NBA player and Detroit Northern High alum Derrick Coleman and Detroit rapper Babyface Ray. McKenney put on a show from the tip as he scored his team’s first 10 points.

McKenney had 18 points in the first quarter and 26 at halftime. He played through jammed fingers in the second half and finished with 37, including eight threes. Acuff totaled 32 points in his return to the Mitten.
