No. 20 Michigan men’s basketball sits a half-game back from No. 11 Michigan State for the Big Ten lead. Beginning with a home court rematch against No. 7 Purdue at 7 p.m. tonight, the Wolverines are entering the most pivotal point of the season. A win over the Boilermakers would be a big step towards taking the conference.

New: Head coach Dusty May previews ‘extremely big’ rematch with Purdue

Michigan basketball heads into important stretch

Purdue ran Michigan out of the building in the first matchup on Jan. 24. It was down by 30 at one point and never held a lead. Since then, the maize and blue have won four straight games. Head coach Dusty May said his team couldn’t ask to be in a much better spot.

“… We put ourselves in great position. I mean that’s where you want to be in February, playing meaningful games,” May said at a press conference Monday. “It should be fun. It’s daunting. It’s Purdue, then at Ohio State, and then back home against Michigan State. If you want to ruin a night’s sleep, think about that before bed.

“… These mean a little bit more because of the rivalries, so we’re excited.”

Michigan is set to visit Ohio State on Sunday and host the Spartans on Feb. 21. First, it could make a statement with a win over Purdue tonight.
