After the final round of the NFL Draft concluded on Saturday, teams began to sign undrafted free agents. Michigan defensive back Makari Paige was quickly scooped up by the New York Giants.
New York Giants sign Michigan DB Makari Paige as UDFA
Paige played his prep ball at West Bloomfield (MI) High under head coach Ron Bellamy. One year after Paige joined the Wolverines (2020), Bellamy was hired as Michigan’s safeties coach and now serves as the offensive pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach.
Paige was a five-time letter winner at Michigan and two-time All-Big Ten honorable mention selection (coaches – 2023, media – 2022). He appeared in 53 games at safety and on special teams, including 32 starts in the secondary.
In 2024, Paige led all Michigan DBs with 45 tackles. His most memorable moment as a Wolverine likely came when he helped seal ‘The Game’ last November with an interception. He also recorded three tackles and a pass breakup in his final matchup with Ohio State.
Along with high level experience, Paige seems to have a knack for making plays. At 6-foot-4, he has the frame to play closer to the line of scrimmage and could be used in many different ways at the next level.
