Michigan football about to make a big jump in recruiting rankings

If Michigan football can close out the recruits that it leads for right now, it will take a huge leap in the 2025 rankings.

Things have been going very well for Michigan football on the recruiting trail and over the past two weeks, the Wolverines have landed six commitments.

They also aren’t anywhere close to being done. As it stands, Michigan football is the leader — according to crystal balls or expert projections — for eight 2025 recruits right now.

That includes top-100 wideout Andrew Marsh, and top-150 tight end Andrew Olesh. Michigan football is also trending as the favorite for blue-chip recruits Hardy Watts (OL), Maxwell Roy (DL), Jacob Washington (WR), and Taz Williams (WR), as well as three-star LB Chase Taylor and three-star wide receiver Phillip Wright.

It’s possible that the Wolverines won’t land Taz Williams. Maybe it will be him or Andrew Marsh depending on whether Michigan can close but if Michigan plans to take four wide receivers, it’s a possibility. Texas A&M is the biggest threat there.

Watts just announced a commitment date for July 1st. Michigan is the leader there but Clemson is also in the mix. Maxwell Roy visited Ohio State recently but the Michigan lead still seems solid.

It feels like there is more buzz about Olesh committing than Marsh, at least right now, but Steve Wiltfong projected Marsh to the Wolverines for a reason.

Where Michigan will rank if it lands these commitments

Keeping all of this in mind, I went to the 247 Sports Class Calculator and calculated Michigan’s class ranking if it landed all eight recruits it currently leads for. The point total would be 255. Even if you take Taz Williams off the board, the Wolverines would be at 251, which would put them in the top five overall (for now).

Of course, other teams will be adding to their point totals but if Michigan can close with all of these recruits, a top-10 class seems very likely.

Guess Michigan football recruiting is just fine after all.
