Today, at Schembechler Hall, Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh had the chance to address the media ahead of the Wolverines’ Big Ten opener this weekend, which will be Michigan’s first game with Harbaugh back on the sidelines. Last weekend, the Wolverines’ top-ranked defense shined bright once again, this time, leading the way to a 31-6 victory over Bowling Green. Here are the top defenders — Kris Jenkins and Jaylen Harrell — that Harbaugh highlighted today.

Jim Harbaugh already impressed with two key Michigan football defenders

Earlier today, Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh gave insight into two key Wolverine defenders, both members of Michigan’s No. 1 ranked defense three games into the season. Here is what Harbaugh is saying about Kris Jenkins and Jaylen Harrell, who have been nothing short of impressive thus far.

“You know, (the defense has been) just just phenomenal,” the 9th-year Michigan football coach explained. “And, guys being the difference maker, players stepping up — we call them ‘guardians of victory’ now. (Senior captain) Kris Jenkins — that interception that he made. The way (edge rusher) Jaylen Harrell is playing. Again, another week where he’s the tone-setter — he had the sack, caused the fumble, (had) tackles, had the rush, and the pressure that led to an interception. Tremendous.”

This Saturday, Michigan football welcomes the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to the Big House in Ann Arbor for the Wolverines’ Big Ten opener. With a 3-0 record, Michigan is currently the No. 2 team in the nation; however, after a questionable Week 3 win, Jim Harbaugh and his team clearly have a lot to work on if they are to push for a Big Ten title and more later this year.
