Michigan football had a stellar week on the recruiting trail last week, landing three commitments in the 2025 class. It all started with Jaylen Williams last week, a four-star defensive lineman.
The Wolverines also got commitments from Kainoa Winston, a top-100 safety, as well as Jasper Parker, a three-star running back recruit. Yet, one of the eight pledges Michigan football has in the 2025 class — Bobby Kanka — visited Michigan State this past weekend.
The 6-foot-4, 285-pound defensive line recruit is out of Howell, Michigan, and is ranked No. 383 overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s also ranked fourth in the state of Michigan for the class and has been committed to U-M since last August.
The latest on Bobby Kanka’s recruitment
Kanka was expected to visit Tennessee this month but wound up canceling that visit. He will now visit Michigan football next week. Defensive line coach Joe Esposito has worked on that connection and was able to get Kanka to schedule his official visit for Victors Weekend (June 21st weekend).
That being said, the Spartans aren’t out of the race yet. Kanka seemed to enjoy his visit and told Corey Robinson of Spartan Tailgate that he “felt a great vibe.”
Robinson wrote that according to Kanka, Michigan football was “inconsistent” with its contact. Part of that had to do with having three defensive line coaches in a short period of time. It probably still hurts but Esposito has built some positive momentum along the D-line and with Kanka — getting him to visit.
The Spartans are in the mix. A flip wouldn’t be shocking but much will depend on how the official visit in Ann Arbor.
