This weekend, for the first time since the 2020 Michigan football vs. Michigan State game, former Spartan wide receiver Ricky White will be returning to Ann Arbor. White, who famously had an outstanding performance during the Spartans’ 27-24 victory over the Wolverines a few years ago, is now a wide receiver for the UNLV Rebels and is scheduled to make his return debut at Michigan Stadium when Michigan hosts his new team this Saturday.
Ex-Michigan State star about to return to Ann Arbor to face Michigan football again
It has been three seasons since Ricky White was last in Ann Arbor, yet all Michigan football fans still cringe at the name. Quite frankly, no one blames them either.
In 2020, after defeating a ranked Minnesota team, Michigan football returned home to Ann Arbor for a Week 2 showdown against Michigan State, which had just lost at home to Rutgers to open the season. Despite being heavily favored, the Wolverines ultimately fell short in the first of many crushing losses that year. Still, the MSU loss in 2020 was arguably one of the most shocking games of the Jim Harbaugh era, and it was led by Ricky White.
Ricky White is still nightmare fuel for Wolverines fans from the 2020 Michigan-MSU game
During the Michigan-Michigan State game in 2020, White tormented the Wolverines’ secondary — he caught an astounding eight passes for 196 yards and a touchdown, resulting in a three-point victory for Michigan State when all was said and done. While MSU eventually finished 2-5 (and Michigan finished 2-4), the win was still significant for the Spartans.
Now, after entering the transfer portal, Ricky White is set to return to Ann Arbor for a game against Michigan football this weekend. White is currently a wide receiver for the UNLV Rebels, who are Michigan’s Week 2 opponent.
This year’s team is very different from the one that White faced a few seasons ago, though it is certain that all Michigan football fans will have the 2020 MSU game in the back of their minds when his name is called on Saturday.
