Indiana's Kurtis Rourke (9) passes during the Indiana versus Michigan football game at Memorial Stadium on Friday, Nov. 9, 2024.

Michigan football (5-5, 3-4 Big Ten) couldn’t pull off the comeback in Bloomington on Saturday as No. 8 Indiana came out with a 20-15 win. The Hoosiers moved to 10-0 for the first ten win season in program history.

Michigan Football Falls Short

Indiana quarterback Kurtis Rourke had two passing touchdowns in the first half, and it looked like Michigan might get run out of the building. The Wolverines had just over 100 yards of offense in the first two quarters and went into halftime down 17-3.

Michigan has been a second half team this season, and that remained the same on Saturday. Michigan’s first defensive drive ended with an interception that resulted in a field goal. The Wolverines forced two punts to follow and turned it into another field goal and a Kalel Mullings rushing touchdown. Seemingly out of nowhere, Michigan was down just 17-15 with over nine minutes left after failing to convert a two-point conversion.

Indiana went on to kick a field goal and keep Michigan from scoring again. When it came down to it, the Wolverines couldn’t find success in the passing game. Quarterback Davis Warren was 2-for-7 on third downs. Warren finished 16-of-32 for 137 yards with no touchdowns or turnovers. The only Michigan turnover came from a fumble by quarterback Alex Orji in the second quarter, and it led to an Indiana field goal.

Senior Michigan defensive end TJ Guy was able to wreak havoc in the second half and had two sacks with 2.5 tackles for loss. The Wolverines ran for just 69 yards as a team and have yet to win a road game. The maize and blue host Northwestern next on November 23.
