Formerly a top 100 recruit in the class of 2022, Keon Sabb has yet to truly have his chance to shine in the Maize and Blue; however, due to a number of notable Michigan football injuries ahead of the season opener against East Carolina this weekend, Sabb could get his opportunity to shine. According to Jim Harbaugh, he has been getting some good reps — reps of “starter quality” — and might be ready to step in for a banged-up duo (Makari Paige and Rod Moore) on Saturday.

Upon graduating from high school as a member of the 2022 recruiting class from IMG Academy in Florida, Keon Sabb was a four-star prospect. He was ranked as the No. 96 player in the nation, the No. 10 safety in his class, and the No. 12 player in the state of Florida, according to the 247 Sports Composite Recruiting Rankings.

Sabb, currently listed at 6-foot-1 and 208 pounds, participated in four of the Wolverines’ games throughout the 2022 season. Nevertheless, he has yet to record any stats during his Michigan football career up to this point. According to Jim Harbaugh, Sabb has been performing well leading up to the East Carolina game; seeing as both Rod Moore and Makari Paige are currently dealing with injuries (and questionable for this weekend), Sabb could finally have his chance to shine.

Jim Harbaugh praises Sabb ahead of the season opener against East Carolina

“Keon Sabb has gone straight to the top,” Harbaugh said on ‘Inside Michigan Football.’ “Amazing player who has really come into his own. He did last year on special teams, but we didn’t play him enough. We didn’t play him enough, in my opinion, at safety. He’s gotten a ton of reps — starter-quality player. No question. So has Quinten Johnson; we’re really lucky that both Keon Sabb and Quinten Johnson are starter-caliber players.”

It remains uncertain whether Rod Moore and Makari Paige will play against the East Carolina Pirates this weekend. Nonetheless, it seems that Keon Sabb could be prepared to step in for the Wolverines if necessary.
