Yesterday, Michigan football picked up its biggest victory of the year — a 45-7 road victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers, which propels the Wolverines to 5-0 on the year and 2-0 in Big Ten play. After the win, Head Coach Jim Harbaugh explained that his team is confident, but not arrogant, heading into Week 6 against Minnesota.

Jim Harbaugh has Michigan football playing its best ball right now, as proven once again yesterday afternoon in Lincoln, NE. After a full week of analysts, such as Urban Meyer, putting Michigan on upset alert, the Wolverines quickly took control of the game and put the Huskers to bed.

Still, despite all of the new hype emerging for Michigan football, Jim Harbaugh is sold that his team is not letting confidence turn into arrogance.

“I think our guys are confident, but they’re not arrogant,” Jim Harbaugh said after yesterday’s win at Nebraska. “You should see the way they practice, you see the way they go about their business in meetings, strength training, well-documented around here.”

Jim Harbaugh has built his program on culture that keeps the Wolverines grounded throughout the season

There is a lot of pressure, hype, and more surrounding Michigan football — it comes with the territory of playing football for the winningest program of all time at one of the world’s top universities. Still, Jim Harbaugh has installed a “blue-collar” mentality within his program, which keeps the Wolverines grounded throughout a long and grueling college football season.

“The standard and what’s expected of our guys, Ben Herbert does such an incredible job of setting that tone, but there’s no entitlement,” Harbaugh explained. “There’s no thinking that, at least from what I can see — maybe their timing’s just impeccable, because every time I look at them, they’re doing right. We’re doing what they’re supposed to be doing and attacking it. And that’s just impeccable timing on their part, but I don’t think so. I just think there’s zero entitlement, and they’re just tackling everything they do, and they want it — they want it. They want to earn it the old-fashioned way.”

Michigan football will put its undefeated record to the test once again next Saturday when it faces Minnesota for the team’s second road game of the year. A victory in Minneapolis will send the Wolverines into Week 7 with a perfect record when they host Indiana on October 14th.
