Yesterday, during the Wolverines‘ 45-7 victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers — the team’s first road win of the year and fifth total victory this fall — a new face emerged on the box score. Sophomore Michigan football quarterback Jayden Denegal, a massive 6-foot-5 QB for the Wolverines, threw his first touchdown pass as a Wolverine during yesterday’s win. Seeing as Michigan is yet to truly name a backup quarterback, not to mention the fact that it may need a new quarterback next season if JJ McCarthy leaves, it’s good to see Denegal making a name for himself.

Jayden Denegal has everything that Michigan football needs when it comes to physical ability. He has a solid arm, a massive frame, he can run, and more — mind you, he is only a sophomore. While his three-star rating was nothing super impressive from a recruiting standpoint, Michigan could have something truly special on its hands if the coaching staff can hone in on Denegal’s skill set.

Jayden Denegal off to a solid start

Yesterday, against Nebraska in Lincoln, NE, the sophomore QB threw the first touchdown pass of his college career — on the season, Jayden Denegal is 2/2 for 43 yards and a touchdown with a passer rating of 445.6.

While he is likely still not going to be Michigan’s QB2 behind JJ McCarthy this fall, he could be in the running for the QB1 job next year if JJ leaves. Throughout the remainder of the year, keep an eye out for this second-year Wolverine as he continues to turn heads and make a name for himself in the Maize and Blue.
