Michigan football has added another blue-chip commitment to the 2025 recruiting class and the latest pledge is from four-star running back Donovan Johnson.

You could see this coming on Saturday. Sherrone Moore, the Michigan football head coach, teased some commitments, and so did running backs coach Tony Alford.

Johnson just visited this past week, so that was a good indication of where things were headed. Johnson is 6-foot, 205 pounds, and out of the IMG Academy. He’s ranked No. 232 overall in the 2025 class and has a stellar offer sheet.

The four-star back did miss last season due to injury. But if he can find his pre-injury form, the Wolverines will be getting a steal, and here is the Donovan Johnson commitment analysis.

Commitment analysis: Donovan Johnson to Michigan football

  • Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State all offered. They weren’t factors in the end, but that tells you what kind of prospect Johnson can be. The 2024 season will be huge for his ranking but if he averages 8.1 yards per attempt as he did a couple of years ago, he’ll be ranked even higher than he is now.
  • I love the pairing of Johnson and Jasper Parker. Parker is underrated in my book. Basically, every SEC power has offered except LSU and there’s a reason for that. You have a super productive guy in Parker plus a guy in Johnson who might be a top-100 recruit without the injury.
  • Tony Alford is doing work. He might not have landed a pair of top-100 commitments but for his first class at Michigan, he did a solid job in a short amount of time. I’m interested to see what he does in 2026.
  • The same goes for the rest of the Michigan fooball recruiting operation. The Wolverines are on fire now. They have landed five commitments in the past two weeks and four of them are blue chips. But once this staff has more time to establish itself, the results could be even better in 2026. Remember that.
