Michigan football makes new transfer offer, plus a departure

We are getting closer to the end of the spring transfer portal window, but on Monday, Michigan football lost another player to the transfer portal in Semaj Bridgeman.

Bridgeman is a former four-star linebacker out of Pennsylvania. He’s a talented dude who is 6-foot-2, 246 pounds out of Philadelphia. However, after signing with the Wolverines in the 2023 recruiting class, Bridgeman didn’t see any action on the field last season, even on special teams.

During the spring, it probably became clear that he wasn’t going to have a major role next season. There’s no guarantee he would have seen any snaps outside of garbage time.

This doesn’t feel like tampering or anything like that. Bridgeman is probably just looking for a better situation and more playing time.

It’s hard to blame him.

From a Michigan perspective, it’s a win-win. The Wolverines get another scholarship and while they probably didn’t want to see Bridgeman leave, linebacker doesn’t seem like a huge issue — at least not one fixed by a guy who hasn’t played a snap of college football.

Michigan could use a veteran for depth purposes and now it has another scholarship to get one.

The Wolverines are expected to get Amorion Walker back on the roster to play wide receiver but with just five scholarship wideouts currently, they aren’t stopping there.

C.J. Charleston, a former Youngstown State wideout, reported an offer on X Monday. He’s caught 55 passes in his career but hauled in 33 last season for 503 yards and four touchdowns. He also has a connection to an analyst on the Michigan football staff.

Charleston isn’t a big wideout like Walker. He’s 6-foot and from the state of Ohio. However, he would add more experience and depth, which you can never get enough of.
