Heading into the upcoming season, which is scheduled to kick off in just a few months, the Michigan football secondary is receiving high praise as one of the best in the sport. A strong defensive performance by the Wolverines is expected to result in another Big Ten title and potentially a College Football Playoff appearance, with the possibility of reaching the program’s first-ever national title game. In a recent assessment by Pro Football Focus, two Michigan players were included in the top 10 rankings for both cornerbacks and safeties.

Michigan football may have the best secondary in all of college football this fall

Starting with the cornerbacks, Michigan football is looking stronger than ever after adding former UMass captain and All-Independent selection Josh Wallace from the transfer portal. With depth throughout the room and a few standout players leading the way, it appears that the Wolverines’ cornerback group will be among the best in the nation.

Mike Sainristil (5) and Will Johnson (3) are both ranked in the top 5 on PFF’s recent list of the top 10 cornerbacks in the Power 5 conferences, solidifying Michigan football’s status as one of the top defenses in college football.

Safties earn an elite grade as well

In addition to having two of the top 5 cornerbacks in the Power 5, Michigan football also boasts a handful of elite safeties. Leading the way is Rod Moore, who is ranked as the 3rd-best safety on PFF’s list, and rising star Makari Paige, who holds the No. 7 position.

The combination of these elite safeties, along with the Wolverines’ impressive cornerback group, sets the stage for a great success in this year’s defense as Michigan football strives for more impressive accomplishments throughout the 2023 season.
