ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Today is a huge day for Michigan Wolverines fans, as it marks the return of football. While we are still a few months out from the 2023 Michigan football season, the Wolverines’ annual spring game (today) will be the fans’ first look at Jim Harbaugh’s newest roster. With a few major players nursing injuries this spring — such as Blake Corum and Will Johnson — we are not sure that they will get many reps during the spring game. Because of this, make sure to keep an eye on rising defensive back Amorion Walker, who recently made the switch from wide receiver to cornerback to meet a crucial team need this spring.

Out of high school, Amorion Walker committed to the Wolverines as a three-star wide receiver. Now, heading into his sophomore year at Michigan, Walker is reportedly making a seeming less transition to the other side of the football. He joins standout cornerback Mike Sainristill, another former wide out, in the 2023 Michigan football defensive backfield this spring.

Earlier this spring, it was reported that Michigan standout defensive back Will Johnson was not practicing. Still, earlier this week, 2023 Michigan football defensive coordinator Jesse Minter claimed that Johnson should be back to playing by the Wolverines’ fall opener, which still sits a few months away right now. Because of this, we are not sure how much of Johnson we will see today, meaning Amorion Walker must step up and could emerge as a standout during the spring game.

Jim Harbaugh thinks of Walker as a starter

Soon after making the spring switch from offense to defense, Jim Harbaugh claimed that Amorion Walker is already looking like a starter for the 2023 Michigan football team. Just days into 2023 Michigan football spring practice, Jim Harbaughs stated, “I consider him a starter right now based on first two practices.” Today, we will get our first look at Walker on defense, and if he stands out as expected, he may earn the CB2 role this fall behind potential All-American corner Will Johsnon.
