In recruiting, you aren’t going to win every recruitment. That’s just not how things work, so Michigan football fans don’t need to overreact to Derek Meadows committing to LSU. And they haven’t.
I haven’t seen much chatter online about the top-100 wideout from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas choosing the Tigers over the Wolverines and Notre Dame.
Meadows, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound receiver, delayed his decision announcement. It was supposed to be last weekend, but he pushed it back a week, which gave some Michigan football fans hope.
Yet, after picking LSU, it’s clear that the Wolverines weren’t that much of a contender. It’s hard to argue with the decision when LSU is generally more proactive with NIL. The Tigers also throw the ball a lot more.
But, it’s not something to be overly concerned about, as long as Michigan is able to close with some of its other top targets at the position.
Michigan football in a good spot with top-100 wideouts
Andrew Marsh is a four-star wideout ranked in the top 100 overall and he’s been projected to commit to Michigan football by an array of recruiting experts.
Marsh is expected to visit for the Michigan recruiting BBQ but Jerome Myles will also be there. He’s another dominant receiver who is ranked in the top 100 overall. Myles was committed to Ole Miss but re-opened his recruitment and U-M seems like a true contender.
Michigan would likely take the commitment of both, even though they have commitments from Philip Wright and Jacob Washington in the 2025 class. It’s a solid class already if I’m being honest, but they need one elite pass catcher to help top it off and it could be either Marsh, Myles, or both.
