Last weekend, against Rutgers, the Wolverines moved the sticks on a major trick play shot, which had the fans roaring and the playing hyped up. With a plethora of dangerous offensive weapons, such as Blake Corum, JJ McCarthy, Colston Loveland, Roman Wilson, and more, Sherrone Moore hinted at a potential increase in trick plays for the Michigan football offense throughout the remainder of the season.

Heading into Week 5, a road matchup against Nebraska, the Michigan football offense is yet to score more than 35 points in a single game. That said, the Wolverines have been efficient thus far, and as the weeks go by, the rushing attack seems to be gaining more and more momentum, getting the Wolverines back to their offensive roots.

Last weekend, Michigan football defeated Rutgers 31-7 during the team’s Big Ten opener. One of Michigan’s touchdown drives was spurred by an impressive trick play (flea flicker) which moved the chains and got the Wolverines into scoring range.

What does Sherrone Moore say about trick plays?

According to offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore, who met with the media this afternoon, it sounds like there could be more trick plays for Michigan football down the road.

“I love trick plays,” Sherrone Moore said. “The kids love it. At the end of the day, it’s just like they’re in the backyard. So when you see the excitement when you present it to them, it makes you even happier. Can’t really tell you when I decide to call those plays. But those are going to be a part of what we do. It’s fun. And then it tests the eye discipline of the team that we’re playing.”

Last year, the Michigan football offense earned a label of being “boring” due to the Wolverines’ gritty nature of running the football. While the playbook hasn’t really opened up too much just yet, it sounds like things could get spicier for Michigan football as the weeks go by — especially when teams like Ohio State, Maryland, and Penn State come to the forefront.

Again, Michigan has incredibly talented players — like JJ McCarthy and Blake Corum — so it might as well use them with some flash now and again.
