Michigan Football O-Line Named to Joe Moore Award Watch List

Michigan offensive line coach Grant Newsome talks to Blue Team players during the second half of the spring game at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

The trenches have always been a place in which Michigan football takes pride in performing well. Despite being viewed as a disappointment to start the 2024 season, the Wolverine offensive line was named to the Joe Moore Award Midseason Honor Roll, which honors college football’s best front.

The 14 award voters are a combination of former linemen, coaches, talent evaluators, and media analysts. The voting committee judges players based on toughness, effort, teamwork, consistency, technique, and finishing.

There are 22 teams included in the midseason honor roll, and the Big Ten has the most teams included with six. It should come as no surprise though, as the conference has long held an old-school, hard-nosed football culture. Michigan won the outright end-of-season Joe Moore Award in 2021 and 2022, and it was the first time a school won the award in back-to-back seasons.

More Information About the Joe Moore Award

The Joe Moore Award is named after Joe Moore, known as one of the best college football coaches to ever be in the trenches. Moore sent 52 players on to the NFL, and he is most recognized for his work with Notre Dame and the University of Pittsburgh.

The trophy was brought to life by legendary sports sculptor Jerry McKenna, and it’s the largest trophy in college football standing six feet tall and weighing 800 pounds.
