JJ McCarthy is heading into his third year with the Wolverines and his second season as the top Michigan football quarterback on the roster. The Maize and Blue have massive aspirations for the coming season — Michigan could bring home a third-straight Big Ten title, appear in a third-straight College Football Playoff, and perhaps even secure a national title for the first time in decades.

Michigan football garnering serious hype ahead of the new season

Recently, Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy has earned some serious national praise and is being hyped as potentially one of the top quarterbacks off the board in the 2024 NFL Draft. In fact, according to draft insider Todd McShay’s big board, McCarthy is projected as a top-20 pick in the upcoming year.

Additionally, many scouts reportedly believe that JJ McCarthy has immense potential in terms of his arm talent and consider him a fast riser in the 2024 class if he can work out the kinks as a junior for the Maize and Blue in 2023.

According to Michigan football wide receiver coach Ron Bellamy, one of the Wolverines’ top assistants, JJ McCarthy is “the best quarterback in America” and will be a pivotal piece for the Wolverines as they chase a national championship this fall. So far, it appears that McCarthy could be Jim Harbaugh’s best quarterback during his tenure as Michigan’s head coach. With a talented roster surrounding him this season, there are few obstacles that can impede the Wolverines’ pursuit of another national title.

As the 2022 season came to a close, it became clear that JJ McCarthy is an ideal fit for the Michigan football offense. He led the Wolverines to massive wins over Ohio State and in the Big Ten title game; despite two critical mistakes, he also played well in Michigan’s CFP loss against Texas Christian. If McCarthy can take the next step this year, he could place himself among the nation’s best, and be a top NFL Draft pick in the coming cycle.
