This week, more and more Michigan Wolverines continue to declare for the draft, including JJ McCarthy and Blake Corum among others. The future of Michigan football star running back Donovan Edwards has been one of the biggest question marks this offseason, as “The Don” is now eligible to declare for the NFL Draft. However, Edwards announced to social media earlier today that he will return for his senior season.
Michigan Football Star Running Back Donovan Edwards Announces 2024 Return
In the 2022 season, Donovan Edwards showed his ability to be an elite running back in college football. When Blake Corum went down with an injury, Edwards stepped up in huge games and delivered multiple key touchdown runs. He also finished the season with 200 yards receiving and 2 touchdown receptions.
However, 2023 took a bit longer for Edwards to get going. Despite the slow start, Edwards came through when the team needed him the most when he scored two 40+ yard rushing touchdowns in the national championship game.
Edwards finished his junior season with 497 rushing yards and five touchdowns. While Edwards certainly could have gone pro after this season, the announcement was made earlier today that he will return for his senior season at Michigan.
This could allow Edwards to be RB1 for the first time in his career at Michigan. But the loss of Corum doesn’t mean Edwards will need to be overworked with carries either. Edwards will be surrounded by up-and-coming running back talent next year, including Ben Hall, Cole Cabana, and 2024 commit Jordan Marshall.
