Michigan football hasn’t had a strong start to the season offensively, but a recent Heisman poll from On3 has senior running back Kalel Mullings sixth on the list to win the award.

Why Mullings Made the On3 Heisman List

Mullings has been the anchor and motor for the Wolverines in 2024. On Saturday against Minnesota, Mullings had 111 rushing yards and two touchdowns in a 27-24 win. Mullings has had two rushing touchdowns in three straight games, which has his season total at six and tied for no. 16 in the country.

Mullings has 540 yards in 2024, tied for eighth in the country, on 77 carries. Mullings is averaging seven yards per carry, and there are only five players across the country averaging more yards per carry with at least 70 carries.

Coming into 2024, the Wolverine backfield was thought of as a committee, and most thought it would be senior Donovan Edwards leading the pack. Edwards has gotten his chances this season, but has taken on more of a receiving back role so far. At the end of the day, the Michigan identity on offense is running the football, and Mullings has been a nice surprise for Michigan fans expecting a down year.
