Michigan football steals Ohio State recruiting staffer in bold move

For the second time in the past few months, Michigan football has hired away an Ohio State staff member.

When Sherrone Moore was hired as Michigan football head coach, he said that the Wolverines were going to be “aggressive” on the recruiting trail.

Moore has been more aggressive. The Wolverines are doing more with NIL than they were before and also, Moore has been aggressive in terms of adding to the Michigan football recruiting operation.

First, he made the bold move of hiring away Tony Alford during the spring from Ohio State. The long-time Buckeyes’ running backs coach is known as a stellar recruiter and that at least helped soften the blow of losing Mike Hart.

Still, taking a key staff member from a rival is an aggressive move and Moore made another this week, hiring Ohio State assistant athletic director for recruiting and events Erin Dunston to be the Michigan football director of operations. This is according to Lettermen Row.

Michigan football lands another Ohio State staffer

This is the latest move to bolster the recruiting staff for Moore. Dunston is replacing Christin DeRuyter, who followed Jim Harbaugh to the Chargers. Still, Moore made as good a hire as you could possibly imagine.

Michigan football landed a “rock star” according to those within the Ohio State recruiting department, which adds a talented person to the U-M staff, while taking one away from the Buckeyes.

It’s just one staffer and to be sure, I’d rather the NIL warchest of Ohio State, but it’s a solid move and when you think about all the recent additions to the recruiting staff, you realize that Moore wasn’t kidding when he said he was going to be more aggressive on the recruiting trail.
