Michigan football still in the mix for elite wideout Derek Meadows

Michigan football wide receiver target Derek Meadows delayed his decision on Friday and that’s good news for the Wolverines.

There are lots of moving pieces for Michigan football at wide receiver in the 2025 recruiting class. Andrew Marsh is still the top target overall at the position and with a decision in August, the Wolverines still feel like the favorite.

Taz Williams was viewed as a Michigan football lean at one time but he’s now expected to choose Penn State. Phillip Wright has an announcement scheduled for July 13th. All indications point to the three-star wideout, who runs the 100-meter dash in sub 10.6, committing to the Wolverines.

Wright is from Louisiana though and LSU is making a stronger push. It might not be enough to win his commitment this weekend, but it’s something to watch moving forward.

Michigan football could still land five-star wideout

Another development concerning Michigan football on Friday in terms of wide receiver recruits in the 2025 class took place on Friday. Derek Meadows is a five-star wideout according to the 247 Sports rankings for 2025. He’s ranked 68th overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2025 class.

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound wideout from Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas was expected to choose LSU on Friday. However, he pushed back his decision a week. Notre Dame could be a reason but Steve Lorenz of The Michigan Insider reported that Michigan football was a factor in that too.

I wouldn’t say that Michigan is the leader but another week is another week. Michigan football might be able to make a move as it has done with some other recent commitments such as Ivan Taylor (flipped from Notre Dame) or four-star tight end Andrew Olesh — a player Michigan beat Alabama and Penn State head-to-head to get.

Notre Dame is probably the favorite for Meadows but there is time to change that, which is a better spot than Michigan was at the start of the day.
