If there is one position group Michigan football is trying to address in the transfer portal, it’s the secondary. The Wolverines lost Rod Moore due to injury and while there is some chatter he will try to return, the Michigan football standout, who has been projected as a top-50 draft pick, will likely miss the season.
Michigan is also thin at cornerback. That’s especially true after DJ Waller left for Kentucky. Terrance Brooks from Texas is a name to watch there, but nothing has progressed at this point beyond contact.
However, Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider reports that Michigan is trying to get Brooks in for a visit. He also reported that Jaden Mangham’s visit will come next week, not this week. It’s also going to be the last visit, which could bode well. Ohio State and Nebraska are also in the mix.
More DB targets emerging for Michigan football
Webb also reported more targets emerging for Michigan football. One of them is former Sacramento State safety Cameron Broussard. He will visit the Wolverines according to Webb and was a First-Team All-Big Sky selection last season.
Broussard is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound safety. He had 73 tackles last season for Sac State, which made the playoffs in the FCS. He also had two interceptions — four over the past two seasons — and five pass breakups.
Broussard could add depth at safety. I know Michigan needs cornerback help too, but if Broussard can play a more traditional safety role, that could allow Zeke Berry to be a full-time nickel. Then, Ja’Den McBurrows could focus on corner.
That’s one scenario. There are plenty of moving parts but adding a safety gives the Wolverines options. Former Tennessee safety Wesley Walker is another name to know.
Walker has one year remaining and 10 pass breakups in his career. He’s a solid tackler too and Brian Jean-Mary is a familiar coach to him since they were both with the Vols last season.
Brooks and Mangham are the most attractive names. They have multiple years to play. But depth is needed and if the Wolverines miss on those guys, Broussard and Walker would add solid depth too.
