We’re now a quarter finished with the 2023 college football season, and while the Wolverines are not doing too bad right now (undefeated and ranked No. 2 nationally), one Michigan football transfer loss is exceeding expectations. Andrel Anthony, a former Wolverine wide receiver turned Oklahoma Sooner via the transfer portal, is leading his new team in receiving yards and receptions, and is among the top-5 in receiving yards among all Big 12 receivers.
Michigan football transfer loss already one of the top players in the Big 12
Aside from the 2021 Michigan football vs. Michigan State game, Andrel Anthony did not have many standout performances. After a quiet season in the Wolverines’ run-first scheme last fall, Anthony hit the transfer portal, where he was quickly picked up by Oklahoma, who needed an explosive wideout with exceptional route running skills, College Football Playoff experience, and more.
Andrel Anthony No. 1 at Oklahoma, top-5 in the conference through three games
So far this year, the Sooners — like the Wolverines — are undefeated. Some of this success, especially when it comes to Oklahoma’s explosive offense, can be attributed to Michigan football transfer loss Andrel Anthony, who is the team’s leader in receiving yards and receptions so far.
To this point, Anthony has hauled in 14 passes (T-1st at OU, T-7th in the Big 12) for 254 yards (1st at OU, 4th in the Big 12) and a touchdown. This means that, so far, Andrel Anthony is averaging over 18 yards per catch.
A better for for the ex-Michigan football wide receiver
It’s worth noting that in three games at Oklahoma, Andrel Anthony has caught 14 passes this year — just five less than his career total with Michigan football (19). Heading into this weekend’s game against Cincinnati, the Sooners are undefeated and ranked No. 16 in the nation, largely due to the team’s impressive offense, which has scored 73, 28, and 66 points respectively throughout their non-conference schedule.
