It is well known around Ann Arbor that current Big Ten title-winning quarterback JJ McCarthy is among the NFL’s top 2024 draft targets. Assuming McCarthy leaves after Michigan’s 2023 College Football Playoff run this fall, the Maize and Blue will likely turn to the transfer portal for a new QB1. Speaking of which, former five-star UCLA quarterback (and MI native) Dante Moore just revealed a few of the top schools that he is looking at right now — the Michigan football transfer target included the Wolverines, making him a major name to keep an eye on.

Michigan football transfer target includes Wolverines in early top considerations

Now, I doubt that the Michigan football coaching staff has actually offered Dante Moore just yet, seeing as JJ McCarthy technically could be sticking around for the 2024 season in Ann Arbor. That said, there is reason to believe that the staff has their eye on Moore, seeing as he was Michigan’s top recruiting target in the class of 2023 and a major miss for the Maize and Blue.

Who else is contending for ex-UCLA quarterback Dante Moore?

According to Dante Moore, the four top schools that he is looking at right now — early on in the transfer portal process — include Florida State, Miami, Michigan, and Oregon. Of course, three of these four can start working on their 2024 rosters, seeing as their seasons are all but over at this point, though the Wolverines have less time on their hands with the Rose Bowl (CFP semi-final) approaching.

It was once rumored that the Michigan State Spartans were a top contender here as well, though that does not appear to be the case — not yet, at least.

Moore is a top transfer target, though everything hinges on JJ McCarthy now

As a high school prospect, Dante Moore was a five-star quarterback recruit, ranking as the No. 4 player nationally, the No. 3 quarterback in the 2023 class, and the No. 1 player in the state of Michigan. Now, after his freshman year at UCLA did not go as planned, Moore will be choosing a new home — he is ranked as the No. 3 overall player and the No. 2 quarterback in the transfer portal right now.

A lot has to happen for Dante Moore to wind up wearing the Maize and Blue, and a lot of it hinges on what JJ McCarthy wants to do, but this is a major transfer portal development for Michigan football fans to watch when the current season ends.
