After a flurry of commitments over the weekend that carried into Monday, the Michigan basketball roster is “almost complete” according to head coach Dusty May.

May was on the “College Hoops Today” podcast with Jon Rothstein Monday and talked about the recent run of commitments by Michigan basketball in the transfer portal.

“We’ve been able to hit the ground running and been able to put together a roster that we think will be extremely competitive in any conference. So now, we just have to get everyone together and start working toward a common goal. It’s been fun, because roster building, there’s an art and science to it, especially factoring in NIL and the years each player has. But it’s been fun trying to build a roster that will be exciting for us to coach and work with every day.”

Hitting the ground running is an understatement. May has landed two transfers ranked in the top 50 overall. Plus, he’s landed two former top-100 recruits and a proven winner in Rubin Jones. You also have an All-Ivy-League player in Danny Wolf.

Michigan basketball roster is nearly complete

Currently, Michigan basketball has filled 11 of its 13 scholarship spots. That’s assuming Jace Howard and Nimari Burnett don’t leave but there’s no indication that they will enter the transfer portal.

Michigan is still waiting on the commitment of Vlad Goldin, the former FAU All-Conference center. The experts have all projected him to the Wolverines and there’s no reason to think it won’t happen. The delay is curious but May told Rothstein the work is almost complete.

“Our roster is almost complete,” May said. “We’ll continue to add probably another piece or two — and it might be youth, it might be someone that’s just a fit. And that could look like a number of things. But we’re almost complete. The rosters are always changing, and you said it best with ‘Portal Kombat.’ But the portal stops for no one, so we have to stay on our toes, but we’re really, really close to having a team that will look like the team we put on the floor in four, five months.”
