Today, new Michigan football transfer portal tackle Myles Hinton, who came to Ann Arbor from Stanford, had a chance to break down his first game with the Wolverines. On Saturday, Hinton got the starting nod at right tackle during the Wolverines’ season opener against ECU — while Michigan ultimately won by 27, Hinton is not happy with how he played during his first outing in the Maize and Blue.

Today, Myles Hinton (a former five-star recruit and Stanford offensive lineman) met with the media following his first Michigan football game — a contest in which he started at right tackle. Still, there were some clear growing pains, which Hinton was quite blunt about this morning.

“It was crazy — It was way different than anything else I’ve experienced,” new Michigan football transfer Myles Hinton explained. “Even playing away games at like places like Notre Dame, where there are a lot of fans, just having people cheer for you is kind of crazy … I still kind of get anxiety. Like the crowd goes wild. ‘Oh, God, what went wrong?’ because you’re used to going to these big away games.

“I don’t feel (that he played) very well, to be frank,” Hinton continued. “My feet were all over the place. I just need to calm down and settle in and get with the program because I didn’t play like I practiced. I played like I was unsure — I felt like I played out of character … It could be anything, but that’s what I put on film, so I gotta deal with it. I don’t really know what contributed to it, but we’ll figure it out, and we’ll fix it for the next game, for sure. I guess I need to tell myself to lock in, to do better. Like, you’re not beating yourself right now.”

Myles Hinton has time to clean things up and get back on track

Jim Harbaugh has been emphasizing the ‘Michigan Method’ throughout fall camp thus far. This means that, just because Myles Hinton was the starter last week, does not mean that he will be starting this week. With tons of depth throughout the offensive line — especially at tackle — no one’s job is 100% safe right now.

Still, it was only game one for this new Michigan football transfer, and both he and the coaching staff are optimistic that adjustments can be made throughout the rest of the Wolverines’ non-conference schedule. This weekend, Hinton will likely see solid reps against UNLV; next weekend, it will be the same story against Bowling Green under the lights.
