Over the past five years or so, very few college football programs have enjoyed the same level of success as Michigan. Former head coach Jim Harbaugh not only brought a national championship to his alma mater, but he also instilled a culture that remained after he left.

A piece of the Harbaugh era appears to be back in Ann Arbor, as former associate head coach Biff Poggi is reportedly returning (per 247Sports’s Alejandro Zúñiga).

Biff Poggi returning to Michigan football staff

Poggi last donned the maize and blue from 2021-22 before leaving to become head coach at Charlotte. He was fired during his second season with the 49ers after going 6-16 in 22 games. Poggi began his first stint with the Wolverines in 2016.

After he was fired in November, Poggi made a trip to Ann Arbor to watch Michigan dominate Northwestern on senior day. It was then that it became a real possibility for Poggi to return.

Head coach Sherrone Moore has now added two people to his staff: Poggi, and new offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Chip Lindsey. It is unclear what role Poggi will serve in, but it will likely be the same position he held under Harbaugh.
