Michigan football has added multiple high caliber recruits since the season started. As of late, the Wolverines were able to flip 2025 recruits Shamari Earls (4-star CB) and Benny Patterson (4-star DL). Michigan defensive coordinator Wink Martindale mentioned depth when he spoke about the loss to Oregon on Wednesday.

Michigan Will ‘Attack’ Offseason Recruiting

“When you lose you’re disappointed, but also when you’ve done it as long as I’ve done it, there’s seasons like this where things just happen,” Martindale said. “I told the defense before the season even started – this is going to be a different year, it’s going to be a different season. (I) continue to harp on trying to get our depth to come along. I think there’s a couple guys starting to step up now.”

EJ Holland of On3 recently predicted 2025 four-star ATH Elijah Dotson (Pitt commit) to flip to the Wolverines. Dotson is teammates with 2025 No. 1 recruit Bryce Underwood (LSU commit), whom Michigan is heavily pursuing. Martindale was asked how confident he is in the future of the program and gave insight on Michigan’s recruiting mentality heading into the offseason.

“What gives me the confidence is watching our position coaches… I think they’re the best in the country,” Martindale said. “Not only coaching their positions, but in recruiting, and I think we’re going to have to attack this offseason as hard as we can to turn some spots around and turn some spots over. So it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.”
