This Saturday, the Michigan hockey team (20-9-1, 12-8-0 Big Ten) will face off against the Ohio State Buckeyes (17-11-2, 10-9-1 Big Ten) for the fourth and final time this season. Unlike Friday’s matchup, which will be played in Columbus, OH, the Wolverines and Buckeyes are set to play outdoors on February 18th for the ‘Faceoff on the Lake’ game.
Michigan hockey, Ohio State to face off in two-game series
This Saturday’s Michigan-Ohio State matchup will be the first-ever hockey game at First Energy Stadium, the home of the Cleveland Browns. Ironically, it will also be the first time that two competent athletic teams have faced one another in that stadium.
No. 4 Michigan hockey and No. 10 Ohio State have faced one another once already this season — the Wolverines and Buckeyes split their first series at Yost, and currently sit at 1-1 on the season. Additionally, the Michigan Wolverines are still in the running for a regular season Big Ten title, though they’ll need to win out and get some help from No. 7 Penn State and the 10th-ranked Buckeyes against No. 1 Minnesota in the coming weeks.
Wolverines turn a corner, could still win Big Ten title
Since Ohio State’s 7-2 victory over the Wolverines in their first series, it seems as if Michigan hockey has turned a corner. The Wolverines took game two of the OSU series the following night, split on the road (OT loss) with the nation’s top-ranked team the weekend after, and have swept their last three opponents. Michigan is riding a seven-game winning streak into this weekend after sweeping No. 6 Penn State, Wisconsin, and No. 15 Michigan State in consecutive weekends.
Puck-drop in Cleveland is scheduled for 4:00 PM (EST).
