With Alex Orji expected to hit the transfer portal, the Wolverines have just four quarterbacks set to be on the roster in 2025. Michigan planned to go after a veteran ball thrower in the portal, and a new target emerged on Friday. On3’s Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong predicted ($) Maryland QB Billy Edwards Jr. to end up in a winged helmet.
In the quarterback room Edwards would join senior Davis Warren, freshman Jadyn Davis, No. 1 recruit Bryce Underwood and three-star signee Chase Herbstreit.
Maryland QB Billy Edwards Jr. Predicted to Sign With Michigan
Edwards has one year of eligibility remaining, and he would have to compete with No. 1 recruit Bryce Underwood. Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore said he would look for experience in a transfer QB, and Edwards has tons. Edwards began at Wake Forest in 2021 before he moved on to Maryland. He backed up Taulia Tagovailoa for two seasons as a Terrapin and took over as the starter for 2024.
Edwards completed 62.7 percent of his passes (273 for 420) this season, which was good enough for 41st in the nation. He threw for almost 3,000 yards with 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Edwards also added five scores on the ground. LB Jaishawn Barham played with Edwards at Maryland before he transferred to Michigan last offseason.
Maryland receiver Tai Felton caught 96 passes (3rd in FBS) for 1,124 yards (10th in FBS) and nine touchdowns (T-10th in FBS) with Edwards at quarterback this season.
