Michigan women’s basketball (1-1) got its first win of the season last week as it took down Lehigh 86-55. The win came four days after the Wolverines lost to defending national champion and top ranked South Carolina by six points. Just two games into the season, Michigan has the nation on notice.
The Wolverines received 36 votes in the latest AP Top 25 poll released on Monday. Only three schools had more votes to join the ranks – Iowa (60), TCU (55) and Florida State (42).
U-M Women’s Basketball Prepares for Homestand
Michigan is set to play four home games over the next ten days. The first comes against Central Michigan (0-1) tonight at 7 p.m.
Freshman sensation Syla Swords leads Michigan with 23.5 points per game. Swords is second on the team with nine rebounds per game, and she’s pulled down a team-high seven offensive boards. The Canadian guard has seven assists compared to just four turnovers through two games.
The other two Wolverines averaging double figures in points are senior guard Jordan Hobbs (18) and freshman guard Olivia Olson (11). Olson is also a major contributor on the defensive end with a team-high five steals.
Freshman guard Mila Holloway leads the team with 11 assists.
Following the Central Michigan game tonight, the Wolverines welcome Oakland (1-2) on Sunday. Michigan ends its homestand with LIU (1-3) on Nov. 20th and Long Beach State (1-0) on Nov. 24th.
