In 2021, the Michigan Wolverines football team knocked off Penn State en route to the program’s first Big Ten title since 2004. Michigan’s 21-17 victory in Beaver Stadium was Jim Harbaugh’s second road win against the Nittany Lions, with the first coming during his initial season with the Maize and Blue back in 2015. Ahead of the 2023 season, the Wolverines are currently favored to win on the road against the Nittany Lions once again, according to all major betting sites.

Michigan Wolverines football favored to beat Penn State in 2023

According to Bet MGM, Michigan football is a 2.5 point favorite to defeat Penn State football on the road this fall. The Wolverines are 5-3 against the Nittany Lions under Jim Harbaugh and are riding a two-game winning streak heading into the 2023 season.

Last fall, Penn State football made the trip to Ann Arbor for a top-10 battle with Michigan Wolverines football, which ended in a lopsided result. All said and done, Michigan ran away with a dominant 41-17 victory, despite only leading by two points at halftime.

The bad news for Michigan football this year is simple: the Wolverines have to hit the road to face off against what should be a dominant Penn State team late in the season. The good news? This year’s Penn State game will not be in the “white out” environment, and the game will be during the day, not at night. This should have major implications on the atmosphere, which will likely benefit the Maize and Blue down the stretch.

Heading into the new season, Michigan football appears to have two top opponents as they pursue another Big Ten championship: Penn State and Ohio State. These two games will all but define Michigan’s 2023 season, which is poised to be one of the Wolverines’ best.
