The Michigan football program has become well acquainted with the Big Ten title game. Over the past two seasons, the Maize and Blue have claimed back-to-back conference championship game victories in blowout fashion. In 2021, the Wolverines cruised past No. 13 Iowa, winning 42-3, and in 2022, Michigan beat Purdue 43-22. Heading into the 2023 season, top college football analyst Phil Steele expects the Maize and Blue to appear in the title game for the third season in a row; this time, the Wolverines are projected to face off against the Wisconsin Badgers.

Michigan football vs. Wisconsin for the Big Ten title in 2023?

July is a major time of year for college football predictions for the coming season. After winning back-to-back Big Ten title games and appearing in the College Football Playoff twice, the Wolverines are poised to make a run at a third-straight incredible season, perhaps reaching national title-caliber competition this fall.

According to Phil Steele, one of the most well-known and respected college football analysts in the nation, Michigan football will win the Big Ten East for the third year in a row in 2023. On the opposing side of the Big Ten title game will be the Wisconsin Badgers, who are heading into their first year under Luke Fickell, who is coming to the conference after a few amazing years with Cincinnati.

The last time Michigan football faced off against the Wisconsin Badgers was in 2021 when the Wolverines went on the road and crushed the Wisconsin Badgers by a score of 38-17 en route to a 12-2 overall finish with an 8-1 Big Ten record.

While the Wisconsin Badgers may not be on Michigan’s regular-season slate, they may find themselves on the docket during postseason play. This season will be the final year of East vs. West for the Big Ten title. So far, the East is undefeated against the West since the division’s creation in 2014, a trend that Michigan football will look to continue during the new season in 2023.
