Michigan women’s basketball announced this week that former Wolverine Danielle Rauch would be joining the coaching staff as an assistant coach. Rauch graduated from Michigan in 2022 where she played for head coach Kim Barnes Arico and was a four-time letterwinner. Upon graduating from Michigan, Rauch still had one year of eligibility to play due to the season which was affected by COVID-19.
In the 2022-23 season, she served as a graduate manager at Clemson in a sort of ‘red-shirt year,’ thanks to a rule that states players do not have to forfeit their eligibility in order to take on that role. She then joined the Tiger’s roster for the 2023-24 season, followed by an assistant coaching season at Western Carolina, before ultimately returning to her Alma Mater.
Danielle Rauch Brings a Depth of Knowledge and Experience Back to Ann Arbor
After four seasons playing for Coach Barnes Arico, Rauch knows all about the culture at Michigan, and what it takes to succeed within KBA’s coaching philosophy. Coach Barnes Arico said of her former player and new assistant coach, “To be able to bring somebody like Danielle back with her enthusiasm, passion and love for the game, as well as her love for Michigan, will be invaluable to the future of our program.” (MGoBlue.com) She went on to say, “I think she is one of the best up-and-comers in the business.”
In her time at Michigan, Rauch was a part of two of the longest post-season runs in program history, including her senior season, when she started in all 32 games and helped bring Michigan to their first-ever elite eight. Rauch said, “[I] am looking forward to making more history in a new role. I am so glad to be back and rejoining the Hardest Working Team in America.”
Rauch has already made history on the court at Michigan, and with Mila Holloway, Olivia Olson, and Syla Swords all on the roster in her first year back, it stands to reason that her motivation and experience will allow her to make history on the sidelines as well.
