Michigan women’s tennis beat #14 Texas in the third round of the NCAA tournament 4-3, earning them a spot in the quarterfinals. Michigan stuck it out for a come-from-behind victory in four of the singles courts after losing the doubles point to Texas. This win leaves Michigan as the last of seven Big Ten teams who made the NCAA tournament still standing heading into the quarterfinal.

Piper Charney and Emily Sartz-Lunde each won their first two singles sets outright for the matches, but with the doubles point lost, the Wolverines had to rely on Julia Fliegner and Lily Jones, both of whom won their first sets but lost their second. Fliegner and Jones both pulled away in their third sets, Jones taking the set 6-1, and Fliegner with a nail-biter that went to a tiebreaker but which she eventually won, giving the Wolverines the match point.

Michigan is Set to Face #20 Oklahoma St. in the NCAA Quarterfinals

The #3-ranked Wolverines are headed to Waco, Texas to face #20 Oklahoma State in the NCAA tournament quarterfinals. This is Michigan’s fourth trip to the NCAA quarterfinals in program history, but the third in the last three seasons, and all four quarterfinal appearances have been under head coach Ronni Bernstein.

New: Incoming 4-star guard Trey McKenney continues to make waves

Now in her 18th season as the head coach at Michigan, it’s clear Bernstein has unfinished business—though she’s made it to the quarterfinals in each of the last three seasons including 2025, she has never taken her team to the semis. With some hefty momentum at their heels, and the weight of the conference’s last shot at getting to the championship game, Michigan is certainly heading into the quarterfinals with a level of confidence and excitement that has been known to win even the highest stakes matchups.
