Recently, it was confirmed that Kendrick Bell — the younger brother of ex-star wideout Ronnie Bell — has been taking snaps at wide receiver. Bell, who is listed as a Michigan football freshman quarterback right now, per the team’s roster page, has been labeled as a “freak athlete” and continues to garner all kinds of major hype ahead of the coming 2023 college football season, which is set to kick off this weekend for the Wolverines.

Michigan football freshman quarterback could be moved to wide receiver

Kendrick Bell is a multi-role player right now, though the roster still insists that he is a Michigan football freshman quarterback for the Wolverines. That said, Jim Harbaugh and others have praised Bell for his diverse skill set, and with a lot of QB depth this year, it appears that Bell could see some action as a wide receiver.

Yesterday, Michigan football wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy addressed the media; according to Bellamy, Kendrick Bell is a “freak athlete” and has been standing out so far.

“He’s a freak athlete,” Ron Bellamy said of Kendrick Bell. “He has some of the same qualities that Ronnie does. You watch him, he was a state champ long jumper, and state champ high jumper once he averaged like 50 points a game in basketball. His twin brother is — I forgot what school in Missouri that his twin brother signed up for — Southeast Missouri? The Bell genes, you know?”

Kendrick Bell carrying on Ronnie’s legacy?

As all fans remember quite well, Ronnie Bell was a standout wide receiver for Michigan football for quite some time. Despite an injury in 2021, Bell was JJ McCarthy’s favorite target throughout the 2022 season, helping lead the offense to a second-straight Big Ten title and more. While Ronnie is now officially on the San Fransisco 49ers’ roster, his younger brother could continue an impressive family legacy in the Maize and Blue.

“It’s just a matter of him just learning the position,” Bellamy continued. “He’s been a quarterback primarily his entire life, so just learning a position, and you could tell that he has a bright future if he does want to stick a receiver. And obviously, we’ve welcomed him with open arms, and he’s done some exciting things like, ‘Oh! Alright, he’s a Bell.’”

As Kendrick Bell continues to learn the ins and outs of being a wide receiver, the rising Michigan football freshman quarterback could continue to see a diverse role throughout the offense.
