After both CJ Stoud and Kyle McCord failed to beat Michigan football over the past few seasons, the Wolverines are going to be facing a new Ohio State quarterback in 2024: transfer portal pickup Will Howard out of Kansas State. In his first interview since announcing his pledge to the Buckeyes, with ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Howard stressed the importance of beating Jim Harbaugh’s Wolverines, stating that the “pressure is on” to down the Maize and Blue.

Not only has it been over four years since Ohio State beat Michigan football, but the Wolverines are clearly a far better program right now — 2023-24 marks Michigan’s third straight CFP appearance and Big Ten title, and next Monday, the Wolverines will face Washington in the National Championship Game.

After the Buckeyes’ offense got handled in the Cotton Bowl by Missouri, it was clear that Ohio State needed a change at quarterback heading into the 2024 season; as a replacement, the Buckeyes grabbed Kansas State QB Will Howard from the transfer portal.

Howard, who is heading into a heavily scrutinized Buckeye program due to its inability to beat Michigan football, knows that downing the Wolverines is priority No. 1.

“That game means so much,” Howard said. “The pressure is on. Beating that Team Up North (Michigan fotball) is priority No. 1 on the way to the national championship and all our other goals. That’s huge and it’s everything when it comes to playing for Ohio State. I know the implications and what it means to the fan base and everyone in the program. That’s the Team Up North now.”

On Monday, Howard and Ohio State will watch Michigan football play for the national title; however, come next fall, they’ll be coming for the Wolverines’ crown — that much is clear.
