NIL deal signals Quentin Johnson return to Michigan football

We don’t have official word that Quinten Johnson is going to return to the Michigan football program for the 2024 season, but he signed an NIL deal on Monday that would lead you to believe that’s the case.

Johnson, a safety who appeared in all 15 games for Michigan football last season, declared for the NFL draft earlier this spring. He had 28 tackles, one interception, and a forced fumble last season. He also had a pass breakup against Ohio State that Wolverines fans will never forget.

The forced fumble by Johnson came in the Rose Bowl and even though it didn’t lead to points, it kept more off the board for Alabama which proved crucial.

However, Johnson wasn’t expected back after declaring for the draft. But following the departure of Keon Sabb to Alabama, there have been rumors about Johnson returning to Michigan football with a nice NIL deal in hand.

Johnson hasn’t announced anything about a return but Randy Wise Automotive posted on X that Johnson is the newest member of their “defensive back team.” Johnson was wearing #28 in the photo and it’s hard to see that happening unless he’s coming back for another season.

“Back at it! Randy Wise Automotive Team is proud to welcome Quinten Johnson as the OFFICIAL defensive back of the Wise Team! We remain committed to helping these student-athletes on and off the field. Go Blue,” the tweet read. 

As a starter or backup, Johnson will add valuable depth. He’s been a core special teams player for Michigan football and will add a proven third safety behind Rod Moore and Makari Paige.

So ff that deal means that Johnson is back with the Wolverines, that’s a huge win for the defense and a nice boost of momentum heading into spring ball.
