Tonight, No. 6 Michigan hockey (17-9-1, 9-8-0 Big Ten) curb-stomped the Wisconsin Badgers (10-17-0, 3-14-0 Big Ten) at Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Wolverines shred Wisconsin in game one
The Wolverines are now 5-1 since their 7-2 loss at the hands of Ohio State in game one of the series two weekends ago. Since that embarrassing loss, Michigan hockey has wins over No. 8 Ohio State (split), No. 1 Minnesota (split, OT loss), and a sweep of No. 6 Penn State. Tonight’s win over the Badgers was Michigan’s fourth win in a row and improved the Wolverines’ record to 17-9-1 — Michigan is also finally above .500 in Big Ten play after a rough start earlier this season.
Michigan’s Friday night win was bolstered by a massive three-goal second period. The Wolverines netted two goals in the first period and added one more in the third. The Wolverines capitalized on two of their five power plays tonight.
Michigan hockey also outshot Wisconsin 48-25 in the win. When it was all said and done, the Wolverines took a 2-1 season series lead over Wisconsin with a massive 6-2 victory. Michigan freshman forward Gavin Brindley was the game’s leading scorer with two goals and two assists in a standout performance, helping lead the Wolverines to a night one win.
Michigan hockey prepares for game two of series
On Saturday, Michigan hockey will again host the badgers in the fourth and final game of the Michigan-Wisconsin series. The Wolverines split the first series with the Badgers in Maddison earlier this season, so a win tomorrow gives Michigan the series lead for the year (3-1). After tonight’s win, Michigan fans should feel good about this squad’s chances of winning its 18th game tomorrow night; however, as we all know, nothing is guaranteed in college hockey.
