No. 6 Michigan ice hockey (10-3-1) split its series with No. 7 Western Michigan last weekend as both teams won at home. Tonight kicks off a two-game set against No. 4 Minnesota (13-2-1) with puck drop set for 7:00 p.m on FS1.

Michigan Ice Hockey Ready to Visit Minnesota

Since losing to No. 13 St. Cloud State 4-0 on Oct. 19, Michigan has gone 5-3-1 with five wins over ranked opponents.

“I think our team’s doing well,” defenseman Jacob Truscott said. “Obviously with a lot of new guys you have a lot of teaching to do at the start, but these guys are catching on quick and we’re getting our groove going and we still have so much more to get to.”

The Wolverines last faced Minnesota in the Big Ten semifinal last season, and they came out with 2-1 victory. In 2022, Michigan went 1-3 against the Golden Gophers during the regular season. Maize and blue head coach Brandon Naurato said this could be the best version of Minnesota he’s seen.

“I think they’ve taken it to us in the regular season since I’ve been here, so that’s something we want to change,” Naurato said. “Ton of respect for their team, I think they’re even more ultra talented this year than years past. We know it’s not against Minnesota, or this team or that team, we know when our team’s playing our best how we need to play.

So it’s more about finding our identity and dictating the style of game, and that’s the message we’re sending, and as a coach you wake up Friday and hope they do it.”
