Michigan football found itself in a 28-10 hole at halftime in last weekend’s tilt against No. 1 Oregon. Through ten weeks, every game in which the Wolverines were down at halftime ended in a loss. Conversely, Michigan had a lead at halftime in all of its wins.
Myles Hinton Opens Up
Senior offensive tackle Myles Hinton spoke with the media on Tuesday and said the second half against the Ducks was about pride.
“I feel like everybody (within) themselves kind of felt convicted to not put, for lack of a better word, BS on tape,” Hinton said. “At halftime, we were like okay we have two options here – to fold over and do nothing or go out there and fight and win the game. We came out with some fight, so that’s definitely a positive for the team.”
Sometimes a team can get away with a bad quarter or two and still pull out a win, but against the top ranked team in the country, that doesn’t cut it. Head coach Sherrone Moore immediately let the team know.
“That’s the first thing coach Moore said,” Hinton said. “The way we fought in the second half, that’s got to be the whole entire game.”
Waiting His Turn
At 5-4, it would be understandable for people to begin to look forward. More tape means a more accurate player evaluation, and it would benefit Michigan to see what it has waiting in the wings. Hinton spoke about the qualities of freshman offensive lineman Andrew Sprague.
“He’s a great player, just a natural pass blocker,” Hinton said. “He kind of had an unorthodox technique when he first got here, but he was clamping dudes, so I was like ‘Hey, if it’s working, it’s working.’ But he’s definitely a great player, great dude, and he has some juice.”
