While Michigan women’s basketball awaits the winner of Minnesota vs Washington in the Big Ten tournament, four of its players were honored by the conference Tuesday. The Wolverines brought in a host of freshmen in the offseason, and there appears to be a bright future ahead.
Four Michigan women’s basketball players recognized by Big Ten
Here is a full breakdown of the recognition Michigan received from the Big Ten.
Freshman guard Olivia Olson
- Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Year
- Coaches: 2nd Team All-Big Ten, All-Freshman Team
- Media: 2nd Team All-Big Ten, All-Freshman Team
Olson is averaging 16.0 points (team-high), 5.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game this season. She shoots 47 percent from the field, 40 percent from three, and 82.1 percent from the free-throw line. Olson also leads her team with 0.5 blocks per game.
Freshman guard Syla Swords
- Coaches: 2nd Team All-Big Ten, All-Freshman Team
- Media: 2nd Team All-Big Ten, All-Freshman Team
Swords helps Olson lead the team in scoring with an average of 15.6 points per game. She also brings down a team-high 6.3 rebounds per contest. Swords is shooting a team-high 88.9 percent from the charity stripe (minimum five attempts).
Senior guard Jordan Hobbs
- Coaches: Honorable Mention
- Media: Honorable Mention
One of three seniors on the team (Greta Kampschroeder and Ally VanTimmeren), Hobbs turns in 30.9 minutes per game and provides value all over the floor. She averages 13.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 42.6 percent from the field.
Freshman guard Mila Holloway
Holloway averages a team-leading 4.1 assists per game. She also contributes 10.3 points and 3.2 rebounds a contest.
