Michigan men’s basketball head coach Dusty May has his first commit of the 2025 recruiting class. The Wolverines have added four-star wing Winters Grady (Prolific Prep, Napa, CA) to their list of incoming hoopers. Grady is the No. 74 recruit in the country and a top ten player in California.
What Winters Grady’s Commitment Means for Michigan Basketball
May seems to prioritize size on his rosters, and Grady is another example, standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 185 pounds. Grady has the ability to score from anywhere on the court, so he could help Michigan spread the floor on offense. Afterall, the four and five will be held down by two seven-footers from the transfer portal in Danny Wolf and Vladislav Goldin, so Michigan fans might get to know Grady early in his career.
Why Grady Chose the Wolverines
“Coach May and Justin Joyner did a great job recruiting me,” Grady said on his commitment. “Coach Joyner was with me on Mondays of every single week recruiting me. We had 30-minute conversations. We had a prior relationship when he was at Saint Mary’s.”
Grady on Michigan’s Plan for Him
“I liked the amount of time they put into the analytics with me,” Grady said. “They value tracking how good a player is analytically. They had multiple people track how efficient I am and it really stood out when they put it all on paper to let me know what I am good at and what I need to get better at. They had a full development plan for me and they were open with my timeline of how I could fit into their system right away. They see me as an immediate impact guy.”
It’s Only the Beginning for Dusty May’s Recruiting Success at U-M
Grady is a top 100 player in the country, but May is close to bringing in a generational talent in Trey McKenney. The senior St. Mary’s Prep (Orchard Lake, MI) combo guard has been heavily recruited by May ever since he arrived in Ann Arbor. McKenney is nationally ranked as a top three player at his position, and he has the Wolverines in his top three just a few weeks from his decision day. McKenney won a Division I state title as a junior averaging over 20 points and 10 rebounds per game.
How Grady’s Commitment Impacts the 2025 Recruiting Class
Grady is the only 2025 commit Michigan basketball has, but it’s a great place to start. On Nov. 4, the same day McKenney announces his decision, Michigan could also land four-star center Xavion Staton (Sierra Vista, Las Vegas). If McKenney and Staton commit, the Wolverines will have a guard, a wing and a center on the way.
